Texas jobless claims total nearly 750,000 in three weeks since coronavirus lockdowns
Nearly 750,000 Texans have filed claims for unemployment in the last three weeks as the coronavirus pandemic continues to force layoffs and business closures across the country.

The surge in jobless claims began in mid-March in Texas when stay-at-home orders went into place in major urban cities and brought the economy to a near halt. In new data released Thursday, the state’s total claims since then surpasses Texas’ yearly total for all of 2019.

Texas jobless claims continued their rise to unprecedented levels with nearly 314,000 Texans filing claims for unemployment in the week ending on April 4, according to federal data.
